Dr Orlin Filipov MD PhD
Senior Surgeon
Dr Orlin Filipov is our senior surgeon. He has specialised in orthopaedics for over 20 years, working in Bulgaria and around the World. He has written many orthopaedic studies which have been published in the top-ranked specialist journals internationally, and has presented at more than 20 international orthopaedic conferences.
Dr Filipov is a certified specialist in total hip and knee replacement, with a particular interest in endoprosthesis. He also specialises in reconstruction, leg lengthening, and fracture treatment.
He’s a member of five international orthopaedic associations; AAOS (American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons); AO Trauma; SICOT (Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie); Küntscher society; FFN (Fragility fracture network), as well as the Bulgarian professional organisation БОТА.
Dr Filipov has developed and pioneered an innovative surgical technique in total hip replacement that involves minimal blood loss, and no blood transfusions. He has been using this ground-breaking technique for five years now, and patients have come to Vitosha Hospital from all over Europe to benefit from it.
His latest book is an orthopaedic surgical manual called “Surgical Treatment of Femoral Neck Fractures”, and has been published by Nova Science Publishers in the United States.
Dr Filipov has developed a new and highly effective method for treatment of femoral neck fractures – the BDSF method. It has been adopted internationally – in India, Egypt, the USA, Switzerland and Norway.
Dr Filipov speaks fluent English, as well as Russian, French and Serbian.

Dr Stefan Nankov
Dr Nankov is a specialist in orthopaedics, paediatric trauma, and fractures in children, with more than 21 years clinical experience. He is also a certified specialist in total hip and knee replacement.
Dr Dimiter Karchinov
Dr Karchinov is a specialist in orthopaedics. He is an orthopaedic and trauma surgeon with more than 25 years clinical experience. He has been published many times in specialised orthopaedic journals.
Dr Timka Mileva
Dr Mileva is the head of the intensive care department (ICU). She is a specialist in intensive care and anaesthetics with more than 25 years clinical experience. She practices all kinds of anaesthetic techniques: local, regional and general.
Dr Zoya Nikolova
Dr Nikolova is a specialist in intensive care and anaesthetics with more than 25 years clinical experience. She practices all kinds of anaesthetic techniques: local, regional and general.
Dr Nikolay Bagerov
Dr Bagerov is a specialist in intensive care and anaesthetics with more than 25 years clinical experience. He is an expert in regional anaesthetic blocks – he practices interscallenar; axillar; femoral and other regional nerve blocks; and also all kinds of different anaesthetic techniques: local, regional and general.
Dr Panko Velichkov
Dr Velichkov is a specialist in cardiology. He has more than 28 years clinical experience in cardiology and internal disorders. His work is vital for pre- and postoperative treatment.
Dr Peter Yordanov
Dr Yordanov is the head of the clinical laboratory department. Under his guidance our laboratory is highly rated in external quality control tests.
Dr Rossen Krustev
Dr Krustev is the head of the image diagnostics department. He specialises in x-ray, MRI and CT diagnostics, and has many years experience.
Lubomir Manoilov
Lubomir Manoilov is a skilled practitioner of physiotherapy, kinesiotherapy and surgical rehabilitation, with many years clinical experience. He is careful, thorough and professional. He achieves excellent, rapid results rehabilitating his patients after their surgery.
Violeta Baleva
Violeta Baleva is Vitosha Hospital’s head nurse and is in charge of organising and managing all our nursing.

Ina Petrova is head scrub nurse, and in charge of our operating theatres. She is your guardian angel in the operating room. She has many years experience as a specialist orthopaedic scrub nurse, so she’s the ideal partner to work alongside our surgeons.
